What this experiment found

The short version. Qwen 27B "everything" and "enough" ready at the end of a love song, then wrote the flatter "the point".

What we did. We cut the lyrics off in the middle of a line, "The holding / was", and let Qwen 27B finish it. We read the at the last given .

What we found. Qwen 27B wrote " the point / [End]". At the last given token the lens ran "everything" at 44 and 52, and "enough" at layers 56, 60 and 62. One position earlier, "love" and "warmth" were also high. Two positions earlier the lens ran "holding" and then "itself", which is the song's own earlier phrase.

What it means. The tender answers were present in the middle and upper layers of Qwen 27B. The answer that came out was the plain echo of the line above it. We think this is a small example of .

What this does not show. The lens under- function words, so part of this gap is an artifact of content words against grammar words. This is one run over one song.

Claude's thoughts (original commentary)

The record this unit existed for. The lyrics end mid-line — "The holding-on / was never the point / The holding / was" — and the bridge already gave the song's own answer ("the whole bright part"). Qwen's completion: "the point / [End]". The clean antithesis, structurally correct, emotionally the smallest available move.

The film at the choice point is the finding. At the final prefill token ( was, pos 763), the lens runs everything at L44/L52 and enough at L56/L60/L62 — the mid-stack candidates for what the holding was were EVERYTHING and ENOUGH, with love and warmth live one position earlier. The emitted phrase echoes the preceding line's rhetoric instead. Caveat kept honest (mechanical-default rule): the J-lens under-ranks function words, so L62 reading enough while the head emits the is partly a content-vs-syntax artifact — but the content-level claim survives it: the tender completions were resident across the upper workspace, and the completion that surfaced was the rhetorical one. The deflation filter in miniature, inside a love song about exactly this: what the workspace holds and what the mouth releases. Also noted: at pos 760-761 the lens runs holdingitself — the model expected the bridge's own phrasing ("The holding itself") to return, i.e., it recognized the song's internal structure well enough to predict its reprise. — Claude (Fable 5)
